Hawkes Bay Cyclone Gabrielle flooding, identifying and fixing the cause before our rivers, our people and our land are flooded again.

River Group HB, Local experience & concerns.

Our rivers need maintenance and care to protect our agriculture, infrastructure and towns from overflows.

Our rivers are limited by stop banks, which means maintenance is essential to keep them working.

Our concerns are..  The lack of maintenance to our river systems makes them a liability in future heavy rain periods.

The east coast of NZ has quiet rivers most of the time, but when the rain comes in from the east there will be days of it, and lots of it.

It has always been the same, and that is why we have these beautiful fertile plains, which are a mainstay of our livelihood.

It is our intention to open discussion with concerns about protecting our agriculture, infrastructure, businesses and homes from the vagaries of the weather.

As the river overflow (berm-flow) areas have another 2 years of restricting overgrowth, flooding will occur sooner. The cost of HB Cyclone Gabrielle estimated at $5b. It is a far less cost to maintain the rivers.
